Horizontal career change…is it a good thing?
So i find myself in a very interesting position of having to make a career move but within my same workplace. For those of you who don’t know, I’m a New Media Director at a leading Ad agency here in Kampala. Actually i do believe i’m the only such person in the local ad industry. Basically i deal with all the new medias of communication such as web and animation. It’s what i’ve done for a long time and apparently i’m some sort of legendary pioneer, along with the rogueking.
Anyways, i was brought on because the powers that be felt new media was gonna be a cash cow for them. Well it kinda didn’t work out as planned. Probably because I wasn’t given the support i was promised. Anyhoo an outside consultant seems to have convinced the CEO that my position is irrelevant and I should be either used as something else or shipped out(and i thought he was my ally)
So my CD seems to think i’m still a very creative person so he proposes I move my job description to one of a Copywriter cause he thinks i’ve got the makings of greatness-ok i’m embellishing a little-point is, i get to make a sideways career change. Which is good in a sense cause i was totally bored and frustrated doing what i was doing. It holds no passion for me anymore,i’ve been like a zombie for the last year or so.
So here, i have to wonder, is the Master presenting me with a new opportunity? Is this a new path i’m supposed to take or am I just supposed to walk and sell gonja on the streets? How does one identify when the Master is taking him down a path or if it’s a trap to more mindless timewasting? Well right now i’ve decided to do as the Merovingian from the Matrix says “Alright, let us see where zis goes”
Peace
